Simons Developments worked tirelessly to engage with the local community when, back in 2009, plans were first made to bring a Waitrose store to the historic town of Malmesbury. Working closely with Waitrose, the town council, consultants and local planners, innovative community engagement activities took place which saw planning unanimously approved in May 2013.
In order to complement its notable surroundings, Simons Design planned the shell with a curved roof and earth banking to ensure it would sit comfortably within the existing landscape and have minimal impact on the entrance to the historic town.
The 28,000 sq ft foodstore, with parking for 200 cars, took 60 weeks to complete and is now trading successfully with ongoing community engagement still in place.
