Morrisons Bargoed: Now Open
Members of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Bargoed Town Council, Morrisons, funding partners Rockspring Property Investment Managers LLP, architects Holder Mathias and key members of the supply chain were invited to a celebratory event, marking our completion of over 5 years of work on the project.
Guests were given an exclusive tour of the new Morrisons foodstore, finishing with speeches and presentations to key figures within the organisations.
Paul Hodgkinson said, "5 years later and out of the worst recession we can remember, we have delivered a wonderful new project to help enliven and invigorate this delightful town. We wish all traders and councils many happy and successful years in this lovely development."
Councillor Harry Andrews, leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council said a few words, "It has been a privilege to witness this fantastic retail development come to fruition. The scheme will undoubtedly breathe new life into Bargoed and it marks the dawn of a new era for the town centre. I have watched the scheme progress at a rapid pace over the last year and it has been an honour to live in the local community and see the realisation of my long-term aspiration to reposition this transformed town as a key shopping destination in the south Wales Valleys."
Local 12 year old Jarred Sullivan was asked to read a poem, after sending it to the project's Facebook page:
"Morrisons is coming to town,
It'll turn frowns upside-down,
Cranes, Diggers, Tractors galore,
Simons are busy, building our new store,
We're getting more shops and a cinema too,
Also new parking spaces just for you,
So come on down to Bargoed Town,
November'13 is the time to come!"
Morrisons officially open their doors to the public on Monday 2nd December. This will see the launch of their 56,000 sq ft new foodstore, complete with deli counters, market place format, a customer caf퀌© and a 2 deck car park, providing 400 spaces. The Morrisons petrol station opened to the public on Saturday 23rd November. The retail plateau hosts a further 7 retail spaces (over 20,000 sq ft), commissioned by Caerphilly County Borough Council.
