Simons complete development scheme for Marks & Spencer in Ferndown
Simons Group have completed major construction works for Marks & Spencer at their new Foodhall in Ferndown, Dorset. The new M&S Foodhall in Ferndown officially opened its doors on Wednesday 6th July, welcoming customers in to the new store for the very first time. The Foodhall was opened with an official ribbon cutting ceremony held by M&S employees, Store Manager, Graeme Todd, and the Mayor of Ferndown, and was observed by local residents who queued outside, ready to browse the shelves for the very best of M&S food.
An estimated 250 jobs were created during the store’s construction and the store will provide around 50 new local jobs. M&S employees have already committed to working with local charity, Hope for Food as their chosen Charity of the Year.
Previously, the site on Ringwood Road had been partly operating as a car showroom and part derelict. A hand car wash operated from the showroom premises, so Simons began development proposals in 2014 to provide a new, modern, well considered and designed building, for the M&S Foodhall concept. The interior fit out of the store has been carried out by Wates, completing earlier this week.
During construction, Simons achieved their company target of zero waste to landfill and a 100 year old oak tree was preserved, which makes for a fantastic landmark at the store. Incorporating Marks & Spencer’s Plan A initiative further into the development, the Foodhall has been created using recycled materials from the original site. As a proud associate of the Considerate Constructor Scheme, Simons Construction delivered on their commitments to make a positive contribution to the local community, providing site tours, hosting charity events and providing regular updates to interested parties. Ferndown First Primary School, West Moors Scout Group, local neighbours and interested parties were given regular tours throughout the project. Tom Robinson, Chief Executive of Simons, said, “It is an absolute pleasure to see the doors open at M&S Foodhall Ferndown after two years of collaborative working, with both our Developments team and our Construction team. The team have been great ambassadors for Simons as a business, consistently making a positive contribution to Ferndown throughout the project, going above and beyond the realm of considerate construction. We thoroughly look forward to seeing the store open for business, delivering all the benefits that Marks & Spencer will provide for Ferndown.“
Graeme Todd, Store Manager at M&S Foodhall Ferndown, said: “The store launch has been a fantastic event and an excellent opportunity for me and my team to meet the local community and Mayor, and welcome them into our new store. We’ve been eagerly awaiting the opening of the Foodhall and as the finishing touches have been added to the store, excitement has been rapidly building. We look forward to continuing to meet the local residents and settling into the town over the coming months, along with starting our charity activity with local charity Hope for Food.”
Councillor Mike Parkes, The Mayor of Ferndown, added: “The M&S Foodhall is a great new addition to the town of Ferndown and myself and the local community alike have been fervently anticipating the opening of the store. It has been a privilege to open the store today and see the enjoyment and enthusiasm from the first customers passing through its doors. I’m sure the community of Ferndown will continue to embrace the new store and enjoy all the benefits it will bring to the town.”
The store is located at 296 Ringwood Road, Ferndown, Dorset, BH22 9AS and will be open 8:00am – 8:00pm Monday to Saturday and 10:00am – 4:00pm on Sundays. 50 customer car parking spaces and cycle stands are available.
