Simons Group chosen as constructor for Magna Park Project for John Lewis Partnership & Gazeley

Simons Group have been named as the contractor of choice for a 675,000 sq ft extension for the John Lewis Partnership and Gazeley at Magna Park, Milton Keynes.

It is the second project in a year at Magna Park for Simons. Earlier this year Simons completed the new 350,000 sq ft manufacturing plant and storage facility for AG Barr.

The £19.6m project involves the construction of a warehouse for the John Lewis Partnership with offices, connecting to the existing warehouse via a 90 metre linking bridge.

Simons are due on site imminently, with the proposed start date set as 29th July and project completion due in early 2014. Tenant’s have been given a proposed access date of 6th January.

“Being appointed to deliver this building is one of the most important events for Simons in 2013, and will represent a key moment in the history of our business. Having very successfully built the initial distribution centre, we intend to repeat the exercise and build on our 26 year relationship with Gazeley, which has been at the core of Simons’ history and growth. Having John Lewis as the occupier of the scheme will allow us to align our account skills to ensure a delighted customer result for both Gazeley and John Lewis.”

Tough targets, goals and milestone dates will keep team focus and relationships thriving through a newly formed Principals Meeting, which will ensure that technical expectations are not just met, but are surpassed.

The project has seen ‘Belbin profiling‘ carried out on all of the Simons team, with key players from John Lewis, Gazeley and Chetwoods Architects also receiving Belbin profiles, to ensure that all team work as smoothly as possible together.

Community Liaison is going to be high on the agenda, with a minimum target of 44/50 set for the team, along with committing to achieve BREEAM Excellent.

The agreed sustainability initiatives will deliver a benchmark distribution facility, alongside the award winning neighbourhood and schools awareness programme with St. Bernadette’s Catholic School that the construction company have promised to deliver. It is safe to say that this project will set a new example of how to deliver a world class distribution facility.
