Simons Group complete work on Waitrose store in Malmesbury

Simons Group are proud to have completed work on the new Waitrose in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, which opens to the public on Thursday 7th August.

Simons have been engaged for over 3 years, working collaboratively with the retailer. This started with Simons Developments, who saw the scheme through the land deal and planning approval, granted in May 2013, with construction starting in January this year and taking just 26 weeks.

Simons Group’s Development Director Graeme Cosgrove said of the store, "We are proud to hand over the store to Waitrose after 3 years of collaborative working. We thoroughly look forward to seeing the store open for business, delivering all the benefits that Waitrose will provide for Malmesbury."

The new branch will operate over a 28,000 sq ft site and will feature meat, fish, and cheese counters, as well as a bakery and extensive wine department. Customers will also be able to enjoy a range of dining areas throughout the store, offering a range of culinary options, including salads, fresh baguettes and deli platters. The Waitrose and John Lewis Click & Collect services will be on offer, as will local produce, including Taylerson’s Malmesbury Syrups and Tracklements chutneys, both based in Wiltshire.

The new store will further benefit from a swift tower, gabion walls, bat and owl boxes, LED lighting throughout the branch and new energy saving technologies. In terms of the extensive landscaping, Waitrose will also be working in partnership with Malmesbury River Valley Trust to plant native species of trees and shrubs around the site, which Simons will return to assist with later on in the year.

Simons have also been keeping in touch with the community throughout via Facebook, with over 250 ‘likes’, the project team have been able to answer queries directly throughout, providing updates to interested parties and even assisting with job applications for the store.

Simons and Waitrose have furthered ties within the community by helping fund Malmesbury’s Town Team, consisting of local businesses, organisations and residents, supported by local elected representatives and Town Improvement consultants.

Fiona Orwin, Branch Manager at Waitrose Malmesbury said: “Malmesbury is a town rich in character, celebrated for its attractive town centre. We can’t wait to open our doors and play our part, alongside the great collection of retailers already on the high street, in attracting even more people to the area. We’re committed to the town and would like to thank everyone that has shown their support in Malmesbury.”
