Simons Group Nominated for Considerate Constructor Award
Simons Group has been nominated by monitors of the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) for a Considerate Constructors 2013 National Site Award for work undertaken at Cheshire Oaks. The awards will be held at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester on Tuesday 16th April. It will be announced at the ceremony whether schemes have won a Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. These prestigious Awards are only presented to the top performing 7.5% of sites inspected by CCS Monitors. The awards recognise sites' excellent standards of consideration towards their neighbours, their workforce and the environment.
Building Awards also short-listed Marks and Spencer’s Cheshire Oaks eco-store for ’Sustainability Project of the Year’, further acknowledgement of the scheme’s sustainable credentials.
"This site continues to push boundaries of best practice in a variety of subjects and has involved a wide range of individuals, businesses, educational establishments and good causes in achieving this."
The team working on Cheshire Oaks used a wide range of communication techniques; including talking to local residents' groups and businesses, a website, newsletters, press releases to local papers, communication with the local council and social media channels (there were over 700 followers on Twitter and the facebook page received over 800 likes; a credible achievement for a construction site) ensuring that not only biodiversity levels were improved as a result of the project, but the team were keen to be as involved in community development as much as possible. Simons carried out over 243 hours of direct interface with schools, colleges and universities, along with hosting visits for interested parties to widen awareness about sustainable construction and wildlife, as well as health and safety, ensuring that the individuals involved would have a valuable and memorable experience.
