Simons Group shortlisted for two industry awards for mental health awareness work
Simons Group has been shortlisted for two awards for its continued efforts to raise awareness of mental health issues and promote wellbeing within the construction industry.
Alice Stone, a Quantity Surveyor with the business, has been named in the Individual Champion category and Simons has also been shortlisted for its work as an organisation, in the Mates in Mind Impact Awards 2019 which is run by the British Safety Council.
Chief Executive, Tom Robinson, said: “As a company centred on people and relationships we know that we need to look after each other and we are striving to get to a place where talking about mental health is no longer a taboo. We are training our staff to be Mental Health First Aiders and engaging and raising awareness through various initiatives such as ‘Time to Talk’ days and making literature and other resources available,” he said. “It’s all a step in the right direction and I’m delighted these efforts are being recognised through the Mates in Mind Impact Awards, particularly for people like Alice who are committed to raising awareness.”
Every head office department at Simons currently has a Mental Health First Aider within each team, many of whom have visited project sites to talk to workers direct. The business is aiming to have at least one trained person situated on each site to support its construction teams.
Winners and those highly commended will be named at the British Safety Council’s International Safety Awards Gala Dinner on Friday 5 April in London.
