Simons Group welcomes new additions to business
As the company celebrates 70 years of business this year, Simons Group has welcomed over 25 new faces to the head office in Lincoln, including an entirely new Human Resources department.
The company has seen a fluctuation in employee figures over its 70 years of business. The company began with around 50 employees and reached a maximum of 1000 employees in the 1980's. Over the last 20 years, Simons began outsourcing their supply chain and closed nationwide offices, reducing to 150 employees and is now on the rise again to an effective and streamlined workforce of 180. The new recruits and promotions within the business being seen as a great confidence boost for all employees.
The HR department has been developed over the last 6 months, with the team now comfortably at the heart of the business, ensuring engagement and development on all levels.
Michelle (HR Manager) has been working in human resources departments of some of the largest construction companies since 2008, joining Simons in November 2013. With a keen focus on HR Planning and Business strategy, Michelle's ability to spot and nurture development is a great addition to Simons. She says of the industry, "I love it for its honesty, fast-pace and diversity." Areas of Specialism and Interest include NLP coaching, mentoring (Michelle externally mentors unemployed Graduates via CIPD), medication and dispute resolution, along with organisation effectiveness and design.
Emma Dodsworth (Training & Development Advisor) first joined Simons in 2000 as a receptionist and over 10 years changed roles from IT Trainer and PA to HR Director. After spending a few years outside Simons (including several seasons of working on a mobile climbing wall and taking teenagers out around the UK on their Duke of Edinburgh awards), Emma returned in 2013 and is now the company’s Training and Development Advisor. Emma has a wealth of understanding with regards to Belbin profiling, a tool which Simons use as a company to ensure the best strengths and qualities within all teams.
Kerry Hussey (HR Assistant) joined Simons at the start of 2014, having been in HR for the past 8 years working within the manufacturing sector of a major UK retailer. A great addition to the team, and an eager new arrival to the construction industry, Kerry ensures that all voices are heard and that all aspects of the Human Resource and development needs are met.
The company’s Developments unit has also seen the arrival of new faces.
Jonathan Bennett has joined Simons Group as Development Director, after 11 years as Property Development Executive for Tesco Stores Limited. The role sees Jonathan return to his roots, after being born, raised and schooled in Lincolnshire. As Simons’ new Development Director responsible for the delivery of our projects, Jonathan’s role is to conclude all the legal agreements for the site purchases and lettings, gaining planning consent and obtaining funding, along with assisting the company’s site finding team. As a chartered surveyor with over 20 years property experience and a wealth of knowledge about food store requirements and contacts in the retail world, property world and local government, Jonathan is an exciting new addition to the team, showing a sign of successful times ahead for the business.
Alistair Calder joins as a Senior Project Manager for Simons Developments. Having amassed 30 years of project and development management experience, he has been responsible for the identification and or delivery of some 7 million square feet of retail and commercial space throughout the UK and Middle East and North African regions. Previous organisations include Safeway Plc, AWG Property, Credential Holdings Ltd and most recently Spinneys (Middle East), a long established Regional food retailer, expanding their portfolio throughout Middle East and North Africa. Alistair will be responsible for the feasibility, development risk management and delivery of the company’s new retail development opportunities, he will be involved in all aspects of design, construction and procurement.
The Developments team has also seen Graeme Cosgrove appointed as Group Director of Development and the latest addition to the company’s operations board. Graeme said of the latest additions, "The last few months have been incredibly busy for the Developments team with a number of our Projects reaching key milestones, along with the welcome additions of Jonathan and Alistair. I look forward to both of them contributing to the growth and success of not only Developments but also the Group as a whole.”
