Simons Group's recent tender success

Simons Construction has achieved significant success in work winning this year, securing £55m of new activity since the start of January. Our strategic customers account for 73% of the successful tenders, meaning repeat business is once again creating a reliable workflow. Projects won include the fit out of John Lewis’ new slim full line department store at Chelmsford and securing two preferred bidder positions, including the first for Circle Health at their new Birmingham facility. The secure and probable workload for the 16/17 financial year is already at 82% of the plan.

Pre-construction Director Scott Simpson said of the successes, “It has been a fantastic team approach to addressing customer requirements in bids. Our customers want a simple process, so we’re making ours less complicated. We are thinking more, presenting better and encouraging a culture of innovation. We have been focussing on our differences to the competition and have further strengthened the offer by looking for solutions of the greatest benefit in time, cost and build experience.”

Chief Executive Tom Robinson added, “I am delighted that our approach appears to be working and the team are doing a fantastic job.  For me this is about the right mix of staying true to the core of what makes Simons a great business at the same time as striving for ways to improve the experience we give to our customers both in the quality of our proposals and delivery as well as the way in which we work.  Simons has great people and a clear business plan entirely centred around customers; I have huge optimism about our prospects for the future”.

Simons Group has undertaken an extensive customer research exercise over the last 18 months and has adapted the businesses to be in line with this feedback. This has created a more streamlined and simplified way of working through the tender process. As a smaller business than its competitors, the approach has seen a focus on the company values, which has resulted in a notable increase in positive feedback. Looking ahead, the company plans to continue to focus on a providing innovation that supports customer need, continuing to look at ways to simplify bids and reliably drive benefits for our customers.
