Simons shortlisted for 'Employer of the Year' at Construction News Awards
Simons Group has been named as a finalist at this year’s Construction News Awards, in the new ‘Employer of the Year‘ category.
It has been a significant year in the history of Simons; celebrating 70 years of business, completing several multi-million pound projects, two of which were local (North Lincolnshire Shopping Park and Lincoln’s Waterside centre) and seeing a non-family member introduced as the company’s Chief Executive.
In November 2014, Simons was awarded the Investors in People Silver standard, demonstrating their commitment to realising the potential of our workforce. Only 5% of UK businesses have achieved this standard.
The company also embarked on an external employee effectiveness survey, with results showing the company to be above the national average. Not only was there a 90% completion rate by the workforce but there was also an Employee Engagement Index of 72%, 7% higher than external benchmarking and an Employee Enablement Index of 75%, 11% higher than external benchmarking.
The company’s annual employee Recognition Awards, created in 2008, celebrate best practice within the workforce, with focus around the company’s values and special recognition for long service and professional qualifications. This year saw a record number of colleague nominations, over 15 awards given out and 140 years of service recognised between just 6 employees.
As an ambassador for encouraging gender equality within the industry 30% of the company’s workforce are female, compared to the national average of 11% amongst the industry.
